Tablescape Cheatsheet

Table decor cheat sheet

Everyone wants to have a great looking table for the holiday season. Whether you’re hosting family or friends, setting the dining table can really add some ‘pizazz’ to the occasion. You don’t have to aim for perfection, but it’s nice to make an effort when you’re entertaining, especially during this time of year. Decorating your table well can help everyone get into the holiday spirit! Even if you are on a tight budget here are a few tips that can elevate your tablescape and don’t cost the earth.

  • Place some single stem greenery from the garden in vases or jars to create a centrepiece, or be brave and just scatter them around the table! Add some inexpensive flowers to the mix to add layers of colour.

  • Pretty scarves or fabric can be used as a table runner to create texture and colour. Use your imagination, even a colourful pillow case or two when folded correctly will add a dimension!

  • Try filling a vase or clear bowl with some ornaments for example straight from your Christmas tree. It will look chic and the bonus? It will colour coordinate with your theme. Even adding some fairy lights to a vase can look great!

  • Use a festive ribbon and tie a bow around your napkins in the absence of a napkin ring. You can also add a sprig of fresh greenery from the garden, a fresh flower or a seasonal decoration to jazz it up. Simply folding up the napkin into a decorative fold such as a tree or bow tie can add a real ‘pop’ to the overall look of the table.

  • If you want to use place cards and don’t have any holders, try using colour coordinated paperclips and attach them to the napkins! In the absence of paperclips, tuck them into the napkins or place them directly on top of the plate or charger.

  • It’s ok to mix and match your tableware… not everyone has a full set of fine china! Coordinate your dinner plates with your centrepiece, match your napkins to your candles! Just make it special, not your everyday dining table!
